San Antonio – As winds began to die down on the final day of last week’s Texoma Championship, scores naturally dropped as a result.

The difference between St. Mary’s University senior Jeff Rein (San Antonio) and most of the rest of the field was that he didn’t have to rely on improved conditions to post such scores.

Now, after tying for sixth place with a three-round score of 220 at the meet hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State, Rein has been named the Heartland Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week, the league announced Friday morning.

“He played pretty consistent,” said coach Wes Skidmore of the Central Catholic graduate. “The short game was real good, because it was a tough course. The wind on Monday was pretty strong that first round and then it started to lay down, and everybody got better. But he was just consistent and didn’t make many mistakes.”

Rein shot 4-over-par, with a first-round score of 75 followed by 73 and 72.

Teammate Matt Vela had been named the conference’s Men’s Golfer of the Week on Sept. 22.
