San Antonio – St. Mary’s University head cross country coach James Kling announced on Wednesday the signing of Raquel Quintero to a national letter of intent to run for the Rattlers, starting in the fall of 2010.

Quintero (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas) was a three-sport athlete at Mary Carroll High School, competing in cross country, track and field and soccer. For coach Tracie Jensen’s harriers, she was a regional qualifier as an individual once and helped CHS to a pair of state meets. Off the field, she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. She also was a member of the Student Council, the Pan American Student Forum and was a Junior Statesman.

St. Mary’s finished seventh at the 2009 Heartland Conference Championships and returns three of their top five runners from the 2009 season.

St. Mary’s is home to 13 Academic All-Americans and 225 student-athletes who have earned regional or national academic awards. St. Mary’s student-athletes’ graduation rate is 63 percent, higher than the NCAA Division II average of 55 percent.
