Gwendolyn Diaz, Ph.D., director of the English Literature Graduate Program at St. Mary’s University, has been invited to participate in the prestigious International PEN Conference in Vienna, Austria. International PEN is a global writer’s association dedicated to free freedom of expression and improving access to literature at international, regional and national levels.

On October 12, Dr. Diaz will moderate a forum about her book Women and Power in Argentine Literature (Mujer Y Poder En La Literatura Argentina). Diaz’s book, which is published in both English and Spanish, is a collection of interviews, stories and essays about 15 notable Argentine female writers. In the book, Diaz examines how oppression and patriarchal pressures have shaped the women’s works making power a common theme. Three of the authors that Diaz discusses in her book will also participate in the panel discussion, which will be held in English, Spanish and German.

During the conference, Diaz will also present her new book, Text, Context and Postext in the Narrative Works of Luisa Valenzuela.
