San Antonio – Chastity Noble scored a career-high 28 points to lead the way as St. Mary’s University overcame a slow start to defeat Lincoln University, 66-54, in Heartland Conference women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena.

Noble (Sr., El Paso) scored 13 of the Rattlers 30 points in the first half, helping the Rattlers overcome a start that saw them fall behind by 10 points in the first seven minutes. Noble hit on 5-of-9 shots from the field in the first half. The rest of the Rattlers made just 7-of-24 shots. Despite their struggles, when Jenni Endres (Sr., Athens, Texas) hit a driving layup with 2:13 left, it gave the Rattlers the lead heading into the locker room at 30-29.

After a slow start to the second half that saw Lincoln retake the lead at 35-30, the Rattlers rallied again. Liz Boyd (Fr., San Antonio) hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut the deficit to one at 38-36, then Noble made a three-pointer to give the Rattlers the lead at 39-38. The teams battled back-and-forth for the next six minutes until Boyd ignited a 10-0 Rattler run that put the game away. Lincoln went a six minute stretch late in the game without hitting a basket, helping the Rattlers put the game away.

Noble led all players with 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, including 4-of-9 from three-point range. Body was the only other Ratter scoring in double figures with 11 points, including 3-of-6 shots from three-point range. Quenita Washington led the Blue Tigers with 14 points off the bench.

With the win St. Mary’s improved to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in Heartland Conference play. Lincoln fell to 4-6, 1-2. The Rattlers will return to action on Monday at 5:30 p.m. when they host Newman University in the first game of a men’s/women’s Heartland Conference doubleheader at Bill Greehey Arena.
