LAS VEGAS – The Lady Rattlers can appreciate why Western Washington University is among the nation’s highest-ranked teams.

Western Washington stumped St. Mary’s on Friday, beating the Lady Rattlers 60-30 on the final day of the Great Western Shootout at The Arena at South Point.

Western Washington, the tournament’s host school, jumped out to a quick 17-4 lead and never looked back against a valiant Rattlers squad that was led by Kristen Williams’ 11 points and eight rebounds.

St. Mary’s is now 7-5 on the season.

The game marked the fourth time this season that Western Washington, ranked 18th in the country in the NCAA Division II coaches’ poll, held a team to fewer than 40 points.

For St. Mary’s, its cold shooting prevented it from seriously challenging Western Washington. The Rattlers shot 1 for 10 from beyond the 3-point arc and 24.5 percent overall (12 for 49).

Williams’ 11 points came on a 5-for-11 shooting performance.

The Rattlers trailed 26-10 at halftime.

St. Mary’s will return to the court on Dec. 30, when it hosts Tarleton State University at 4 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena.
