San Antonio – Taryn Munoz allowed just three hits and one unearned run, helping St. Mary’s University to a 9-1 victory over the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Heartland Conference softball action Saturday afternoon at St. Mary’s University Softball Field.

Munoz (Sr., Bulverde, Texas) picked up her 10th victory of the season, allowing just three base runners in five innings of work. She struck out 2 to pick up her second win of the series.

Offensively, the Rattlers picked up six runs in the first inning and scored three more in the third to give the Rattlers the run-rule victory. Six different Rattlers picked up a hit in the game, including three players with two or more base hits. Stephanie McQueen (So., San Antonio) picked up her first collegiate hit – a two-run homerun in the third inning.

With the win St. Mary’s is now 16-6 overall and 3-0 in Heartland Conference play this season. UTPB fell to 6-15, 0-3. The Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to San Angelo to face Angelo State University in a doubleheader, starting at 4 p.m.
