San Antonio – Ryan Morrow smacked his first two homeruns of the season and Courtney Behrend tossed eight strong innings, helping St. Mary’s University to a 6-1 victory over Newman University in Heartland Conference baseball action Sunday afternoon at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.

With the Rattlers trailing 1-0, Morrow (Jr., Bulverde, Texas) came to the plate and tied the game with his first homerun of the season with one out in the bottom of the seventh. The following inning he smacked his second long ball of the day, a 2-run shot, to give the Rattlers some insurance.

From there, Behrend (Sr., Comfort, Texas) took over. He allowed just 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 5 in 8 innings of work. Jacob Worsham (Jr., Magnolia, Texas) tossed a perfect ninth in his first-ever appearance as a Rattler. Steven Trevino took the loss for Newman, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks in 6.0 innings of work.

James Hipp (Sr., Uvalde, Texas) went 2-for-3, while Tyler Migl (So., San Antonio) was 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

With the win St. Mary’s improved to 8-5 overall and 8-5 in Heartland Conference play. Newman fell to 3-8 overall and 3-7 in Heartland Conference play. The Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday, when they face Tarleton State University in a single game at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium at 3 p.m.
