San Antonio – The 14th-ranked University of the Incarnate Word men’s soccer team topped St. Mary’s University 3-0 on Sunday night.

The Cardinals enjoyed goals from Jesus Cortez, Callum Riley and Troy Thompson to edge the Rattlers at UIW.

Cortez scored in the fifth minute, shooting over goalkeeper Patrick Kasperitis (So., Corpus Christi, Texas) from 25 yards out.

Riley followed with a goal in the 15th minute, finding the back of the net on a one-timer for his seventh goal of the season.

Thompson added the final goal in the 76th minute on a low cross from the left side to score on a one-timer.

Kasperitis saved six shots for the Rattlers (2-4), who were outshot 21-6. Michael Hasbach (Jr., Colleyville, Texas) took two shots for St. Mary’s.

The Rattlers return to the field Friday, when they will host the University of Texas-Permian Basin at 3:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Soccer Field.
