San Antonio – Fueled by a second round in which four of their five golfers shot 74 or better, the St. Mary’s University men’s golf team sits in third place after two rounds of the Bruce Williams Memorial Tournament/St. Mary’s Invitational.

Matt Vela (Sr., San Antonio) led the way Monday with a two-round total of 145, including a second-round 72, to enter Tuesday’s final round in a tie for sixth place at the Dominion Country Club.

Sam Jernigan (Jr., San Antonio) also carded a 72 in the second round for a two-round score of 148, which was good enough for a tie for 13th place.

Meanwhile, Jeff Rein (Sr., San Antonio) shot 149 and is tied for 17th. Tim Paiz (So., San Antonio) shot 73 in the second round, finishing the day at 150.

The Rattlers, who shot 592 as a team, trail the University of Central Oklahoma by 16 strokes. Central Oklahoma’s Colby Shrum is the individual leader, sitting six strokes ahead of Vela.
