St. Mary’s University School of Law Campus Minister, Sr. Grace Walle, F.M.I., received the Yellow Rose of Texas Education Award, for her lifetime devotion to education. Sr. Grace received the award from the Constance Allen Heritage Guild for Lifetime learning, a non-profit corporation organized by the Past Presidents of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of San Antonio. The guild provides scholarships to assist deserving individuals in furthering their education.

Sr. Grace has provided personal and spiritual counseling at St. Mary’s University for almost 30 years, 16 of which she has focused on assisting law students.  Among her many duties, she coordinates San Antonio’s Red Mass, alternative community service oriented spring breaks for law students,  as well as recruiting law student participants for Ask-a-Lawyer, People’s Law School and other legal community service programs.

“Touching the heart of a student, educating their heart and soul, that is what it means to be a campus minister,” Sr. Grace said. “My ministry in higher education allows me to help students develop their skills and personal integrity to advance the cause of justice.”

Past Marianist award recipients include Rev. John A. Leies, S.M.; George T. Montague, S.M.; and Br. Paul Metzger, S.M.
