San Antonio – St. Mary’s University women’s soccer players Carolina Hernandez and Annia Olivares each were honored by the Heartland Conference on Monday evening.

Hernandez was named the conference’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Olivares shared Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Rattlers go 2-0 last week.

Hernandez (Sr., El Paso, Texas) hit the game-winner in overtime to defeat Texas A&M International University 1-0, and scored the Rattlers’ only goal in a victory over Texas-Permian Basin. The goals marked her seventh and eighth over the past nine games.

Meanwhile, Olivares (So., El Paso, Texas) helped solidify a defensive effort that pitched two shutouts, including an unlikely one at A&M International in which the Rattlers played 45 minutes in a heavy wind. Both shutouts came on the road.

St. Mary’s returns to the field at Newman University on Thursday night.
