Wichita, Kan. – Led by senior Michelle Ornelas’ pace-setting tempo, the St. Mary’s University cross country team ran toward a fifth-place finish at the Heartland Conference Tournament Cross Country Championship on Saturday.
Ornelas, a native of Arlington, Texas, placed 26th with a time of 26 minutes, 13.95 seconds.
A string of Rattlers finished directly behind Ornelas, with Ariel Ornelas (So., Arlington, Texas) and Raquel Quintero (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas) placing 27th and 28th, respectively.
Ariel Ornelas finished in 26:22.74, while Quintero crossed in 26:29.21.
Ariel Ornelas (So., Arlington, Texas) placed one spot behind Michelle Ornelas, placing 27th after crossing in 26:22.74.
As a team, the Rattlers finished 22 points out of fourth place in the six-team field.
