Jefferson City, Mo. – St. Mary’s University blasted three homeruns to back up the strong pitching of Courtney Behrend as the Rattlers completed a three-game sweep of Lincoln University with a 16-1 victory over the Blue Tigers, Saturday afternoon in Heartland Conference baseball action.

Behrend (Sr., Comfort, Texas) went 7.1 strong innings, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 5. He improved to 3-0 this season. Michael Villarreal (Sr., Eagle Pass, Texas) and Sammy Rivas (Jr., San Antonio) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings to complete the day on the mound.

St. Mary’s pounded out 16 hits in the game, including 4 doubles and 3 homeruns. Eight of the Rattlers nine starters had at least one hit, including five players with two or more hits. Greg Herbst (Jr., San Antonio) had his second straight four-hit game to lead the offense. Herbst went 4-of-5 with a double, homerun, 3 RBI and 4 runs scored. Jonathan Cisneros (Sr., San Antonio) and Weston Baros (Jr., San Antonio) also hit homeruns for the Rattlers.

With the victory St. Mary’s is now 14-6 overall and 13-6 in Heartland Conference play. The Rattlers have won six straight games. Lincoln fell to 3-15 overall and 3-15 in Heartland Conference play. The Rattlers will return to action on Wednesday, March 10, when they host the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith in a doubleheader, starting at 2 p.m.
