Oakdale, N.Y. – St. Mary’s University finished up play at the Dowling University Invitational Volleyball Tournament, falling to Lock Haven University, 28-26, 25-22, 25-9, Saturday afternoon at Dowling University Gymnasium.

In the first set, the Rattlers took control early, fell behind, and then rebounded to take the lead late. St. Mary’s had three set points, but couldn’t close out Lock Haven, who scored the final three points of the set to win 28-26. In the second set the Rattlers fell behind by as much as six points early before rallying to pull within two points at 22-20. However, that was as close as they could get in a 25-22 loss. In the final set Lock Haven took the early lead, then finished with a flurry, outscoring the Rattlers 13-2 to finish the match.

Kristin Chapman (So., Jourdanton) led the way for the Rattlers with eight kills and three blocks. Katelyn Kershner (Jr., San Antonio) had six kills and a team-best 11 digs. Allie Murray (Fr., San Antonio) had 12 assists, two service aces and four digs.

With the loss the Rattlers fell to 1-7 this season and have lost their last six matches in a row. St. Mary’s will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11, when they travel to Warrensburg, Mo., for the Peggy Martin Classic. They will face the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the first match of the tournament at 11 a.m.
