San Antonio – Nick Morey was named first team All-Heartland Conference, while Lorenzo Anthony was named Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season in the annual conference awards, announced on Tuesday. Curtis Mitchell was also picked as honorable mention All-Heartland Conference.

Morey (Sr., Belpre, Ohio) received All-Heartland Conference honors for the first time this season. He leads the Rattlers with 16.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and is shooting 52.3 percent from the field. Morey has scored in double figures in 25 of 27 games, including seven with 20 or more points. He has nine double-doubles this season. He scored a season-high 25 points against Huston Tillotson University and Dallas Baptist University. He has pulled down a season-high of 15 rebounds twice this season as well.

Anthony (Sr., San Antonio) is averaging 5.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He has scored in double figures twice this season, both 13 points, against Paul Quinn College and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. He has pulled down five or more rebounds eight times, including a season-high of eight three times. Anthony was named Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the 2007-2008 season as well.

Mitchell (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) is averaging 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 three-pointers made per game. He has scored in double figures in 16 of 27 games this season. He has been especially strong in conference play, scoring in double figures in 13 of 16 games. He has hit on 39.1 percent of his three-pointers since entering conference play. He scored a season-high 19 points against St. Edward’s University.

The Rattlers are 17-10 overall and finished tied for second in the Heartland Conference this season with a 12-4 record. St. Mary’s will face Dallas Baptist at 8:30 p.m. on Friday in the first round of the Heartland Conference Tournament, which will be played at the University of the Incarnate Word.
