San Antonio – St. Mary’s University opened up big early leads and never let up in sweeping a Heartland Conference doubleheader in softball action Friday afternoon against Lincoln University, 11-4, 9-4 at Blue Tiger Field.

In the first game Jenna Saucedo (Sr., Elmendorf) smacked a two-run double to help the Rattlers run out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Rattlers increased their lead in the third inning, with Arlynda Flores (Jr., Uvalde) and Lia Provence (So., Bastrop) smacking RBI singles. From there Flores held the Blue Tigers in check on the mound, allowing just two earned runs on four hits and two walks. She improved to 11-11 with the win.

In game two Taryn Munoz (Jr., Bulverde) allowed just two hits and one walk over four innings to improve to 15-14. Chelsea Wenske (So., Shiner) smacked a homerun and picked up two hits, while Sade Moore (Sr., Angleton) also had two hits and drove in three runs.

In the doubleheader Moore and Wenske each had four hits, while Kelly Baker (So., Arlington) chipped in with three base knocks.

With the sweep St. Mary’s improved to 27-27 overall and 18-4 in Heartland Conference play. Lincoln fell to 11-34, 7-15. The two teams will wrap up their four-game series on Saturday at noon.
