San Antonio – Taryn Munoz picked up her tenth win of the season, while the St. Mary’s University offense banged out 12 hits as the Rattlers split a doubleheader, 3-4, 10-2, against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Heartland Conference softball action Saturday afternoon at the UTPB Softball Complex.

Munoz (Jr., Bulverde) allowed just two runs on five hits and a walk in four innings of work to improve to 10-8 this season. Arlynda Flores (Jr., Uvalde) tossed a scoreless inning to wrap up the win in a run-rule shortened affair. Munoz also tossed 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in the first game of the doubleheader, striking out six.

Chelsea Wenske (So., Shiner) led the offense, going 2-of-2 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Kelly Baker (So., Arlington), Lia Provence (So., Bastrop) and Nikki Flores (Sr., Friendswood) each had two hits in the win.

In the first game of the day, the Falcons scored four runs in the first two innings and then held off a late Rattler rally for a one-run win.

With the split St. Mary’s is now 18-19 overall and 10-2 in Heartland Conference play this season. UTPB is 3-30, 1-11. The Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Abilene to fact Abilene Christian University in a doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m.
