San Antonio – Scott Shimek tossed a one-hit shutout in game two, while Braxton Watson picked up his seventh win of the season in game one as the St. Mary’s University Rattlers remained red-hot sweeping a doubleheader against Lincoln University, 7-3, 10-0, in Heartland Conference baseball action Friday afternoon at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.

Shimek (Sr., Shiner) allowed just three baserunners in the game: a hit by pitch to Ben Neuner, a single to Drew Horrell in the fourth inning and a walk to Zane Walker in the bottom of the sixth inning. The shutout was his first of the season and the one-hitter was the lowest total he has allowed this season. He also struck out 10 to improve to 10-2 this season.

The Rattler offense produced 10 runs on 14 hits to back up Shimek’s pitching. Jonathon Cisneros (Jr., San Antonio) had three hits, including his fourth homerun of the season. Danny Cantu (Sr., Laredo) and Regan Moczygemba (So., Bulverde) also had three hits each.

In the first game Watson (Sr., Spring) allowed just two runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out six in five innings of work. He improved to 7-3 with the win. Eduardo de Lachica (So., Sugarland) earned his second save of the season. Michael Brzezinski (Sr., Helotes) smacked his sixth homerun of the season to help back up Watson’s pitching.

With the sweep St. Mary’s improved to 34-15 overall, 30-12. Lincoln fell to 13-31, 12-29. The two teams will wrap up their three-game series on Saturday with a single game starting at 1 p.m. The Rattler sweep, combined with a split of a doubleheader between Texas-Permian and Incarnate Word moves the Rattlers to within one game of front-running UTPB in the Heartland Conference standings.
