San Antonio – St. Mary’s University tennis coach Ian Ward announced on Friday the signing of San Antonio native Sanya Rivera to a national letter of intent to join the Rattlers, starting with the 2010-2011 academic year.

Rivera (Fr., 5’5″, San Antonio) earned numerous honors for coach James Camacho at Edison High School. She was the 2009 district champion in singles for EHS and a four-year member of the varsity squad. She served as the team captain and helped lead Edison to the regional tournament. Off the court, she ranked 10th in her class and was a member of the National Honor Society. When Rivera enrolls at St. Mary’s in the fall 2010, her intended major will be interdisciplinary reading and education.

St. Mary’s finished the 2009 season with a 6-13 record, their best mark since the 2005-2006 season. The Rattlers advanced to the Heartland Conference Tournament semifinals.
