San Antonio – St. Mary’s University baseball coach Charlie Migl announced on Saturday the signing of San Antonio native Rene Solis to a national letter of intent to join the Rattlers, starting with the 2011 season.

Solis (Fr., LHP/OF, 6’0″, San Antonio) was a standout student-athlete for head coach Preston Rogers at Stevens High School, earning all-district honors twice and all-area honors on two occasions. He helped to lead SHS to three state playoff appearances and a district championship. When Solis enrolls at St. Mary’s in the fall of 2010 his intended major will be exercise and sports science.

Solis is the first signee for the Rattler baseball team for 2011. St. Mary’s finished the 2009 season with a 36-17 overall record and 32-14 mark in Heartland Conference play. They finished third in the Heartland Conference standings, missing out on a trip to the NCAA postseason by just one game.
