Laredo – Sade Moore had seven hits, while Kelly Baker chipped in with five of her own as St. Mary’s University swept past Texas A&M-International, 7-4, 12-4, in Heartland Conference softball action Friday afternoon.

In the first game, the Rattlers trailed 3-1 entering the top of the seventh inning, but rallied to send the game into extra innings. With two outs Lauren Miller (So., Baytown) singled and Heather Monroe (Jr., New Braunfels) singled. Nikki Flores (Sr., Friendswood) reached on an error that scored Miller and pulled St. Mary’s to within one run at 3-2. Lia Provence (So., Bastrop) then tied the game with an infield single that scored Monroe. Two innings later the Rattlers broke the game open. With two outs and Miller on second Moore (Sr., Angleton) smacked a triple and scored herself on an errant throw. Provence followed with a single and Baker (So., Arlington) smacked a triple of her own to give the Rattlers a three-run lead. Arlynda Flores (Jr., Uvalde) wrapped up the scoring with a double to drive in Baker.

In the second game the Rattlers put eight runs up on the board in the fourth inning and rolled to a run-rule victory. Moore was a perfect 4-for-4 in the second game, including two doubles to lead the way offensively. Taryn Munoz (Jr., Bulverde) picked up her second win of the day and improved to 14-13 on the season.

With the sweep the Rattlers improved to 25-26 overall and 16-4 in Heartland Conference play this season. TAMIU fell to 22-22, 11-9. The Rattlers will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Edmond, Okla., to face the University of Central Oklahoma in a single game starting at noon.
