San Antonio–Four St. Mary’s University Rattlers scored in double figures and the Rattlers shot 78 percent from three-point range, leading to a 65-48 win over the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Heartland Conference men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena.

The Rattlers never trailed in the game, taking an early 20-10 lead in the first 10 minutes and the lead was never less than eight points the rest of the way.

Curtis Mitchell (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Rattlers with 14 points, including 3-of-3 from three-point range. Lorenzo Anthony (Sr., San Antonio) added 13 points, Darren Lee (Jr., Stockton, Calif.) had 11 points and Nick Morey (Sr., Belpre, Ohio) had 10 points and 13 rebounds.

As a team the Rattlers shot 48.1 percent (26-54), including 77.8 percent (7-9) from three-point range. The Rattlers also outrebounded the Falcons, 47-30. UTPB shot just 31.7 percent in the game (19-60), including 12.5 percent (2-16) from three-point range.

With the win the Rattlers improved to 13-10 overall and 8-4 in Heartland Conference play this season. UTPB fell to 8-15, 4-8. St. Mary’s will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 21, when they travel across town to face the University of the Incarnate Word in a women’s/men’s doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m.
