San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s tennis players, Marcin Marczewski and Marcos Villarreal were both named All-Heartland Conference, while Marczewski earned Freshman of the Year honors.

Marczewski (Fr., Gwiazozista, Poland) finished the season with the best singles mark on the squad, going 15-4 as a true freshman. He played primarily at number two, posting an 8-4 mark there. He also teamed with Drew Zemanek (So., LaPorte) to post a team-best 11-8 record in doubles, including a perfect 5-0 mark at number one doubles.

Villarreal (Jr., Corpus Christi) earned All-Heartland Conference for the first time in his third season with the team. He went 12-6 in singles, playing primarily at number three, where he posted a 7-4 record. He was the only Rattler besides Marczewski to record double-digit wins in singles this season. He also played with Vitas Van Dijk (Jr., Paramaribo, Suriname) in doubles, producing a 7-9 record, playing primarily at number one.

St. Mary’s finished the 2009 season with a 7-9 record, their best mark since the 2001-2002 season. The Rattlers advanced to the Heartland Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
