San Antonio – St. Mary’s University freshman basketball player Kevin Kotzur was named Heartland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week again. His most recent honor came for his play against Huston-Tillotson University and Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Kotzur (Fr., 6’8″, La Vernia, Texas) helped lead the Rattlers to a 1-1 record, averaging 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds, while shooting 63.2 percent from the field. Against Huston-Tillotson on Dec. 1, he scored 16 points and added 8 rebounds, while 7-of-10 shooting from the field to lift the Rattlers to an easy win. Against Texas A&M-Kingsville, he scored 10 points, pulled down 8 rebounds and dished out 3 assists in just 26 minutes of action. For the season, Kotzur is averaging 14.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. He is hitting on 67.6 percent of his shots from the field.

The award is the second of the season for Kotzur, who shared the award for the first week of the season. He is the only player in the Heartland Conference to earn the award twice this season. He currently ranks eighth in the Heartland Conference in scoring, fifth in rebounding, second in field goal percentage and is tied for first in blocked shots.

St. Mary’s (3-5 overall) returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Goodwell, Okla., to face Oklahoma Panhandle State University (3-4 overall, 0-1 Heartland Conference) in the Heartland Conference season opener for the Rattlers. The Rattlers have been off since Dec. 5.
