San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s basketball player Kevin Kotzur was named Heartland Conference Player of the Week for his play in the opening three games of the season, it was announced on Wednesday by the league office.

Kotzur (Fr., La Vernia) led St. Mary’s with 17.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game over the first three games of the season. He shot an amazing 91.3 percent (21-of-23) from the field and also shot 71.4 percent (10-14) from the free throw line.

In his collegiate debut Kotzur made all six of his shots to score 16 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. In his second game he hit on 10-of-12 shots from the field to reach 20 points for the first game, while pulling down 5 rebounds. In the Rattlers win on Saturday against Southwestern College, he made all 5 of his shots from the field, scoring 16 points, while pulling down a season-high 8 rebounds. Kotzur red-shirted during the 2008-2009 season.

Kotzur and the Rattlers will return to action on Friday, Nov. 27 when they host the River City Classic Men’s Basketball Tournament at Bill Greehey Arena. Langston University and Midwestern State University will play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Rattlers and Texas A&M University-Commerce (TAMUC) at 7:30 p.m. The tournament will continue on Saturday with Langston and TAMUC playing at 5:30 p.m., followed by St. Mary’s and Midwestern State at 7:30 p.m. Live stats of all games will be available on the internet.
