San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s golf coach Wes Skidmore announced on Friday the signing of Devine native Jacob Torans to a national letter of intent to play for the Rattlers, starting with the 2009-2010 academic year.

Torans (5’8″, Fr.) was a four-year standout for coach Gary Schmidt at Devine High School. He was named Team MVP all four years at the school. He had a 73.0 stroke average as a senior in 2008-2009. H was the 2009 Class 3A State Champion as an individual and was named 2009 DHS Athlete of the Year.

Torans is the first signee for the men’s golf team this offseason. St. Mary’s won the 2009 Heartland Conference Tournament Championship, with Jeff Rein taking medalist honors. The Rattlers also finished 11th at the NCAA Midwest/South Central Regional Championships.
