San Antonio – The University of Central Oklahoma handed St. Mary’s University a 25-20, 25-17, 25-17, defeat in the volleyball season opener for both teams, Thursday night at Bill Greehey Arena, in the opening game of the St. Mary’s/Texas MedClinic Invitational.

The Bronchos hit .229 for the match, producing a total of 38 kills against 14 errors in the match. The Rattlers had 28 kills against just 22 errors for a .059 attack percentage. UCO had at least 12 kills in each set. Kristen Wilson led the Bronchos with 11 kills, while Ginger Gowen had 16 digs.

Katelyn Kershner (Jr., San Antonio) led the way for the Rattlers with 10 kills and four digs. Luisa Rodriguez (Jr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had eight kills and 11 digs in her first match as a Rattler. Stephanie Flores (So., San Antonio) led St. Mary’s with 13 digs in her first match for the Rattlers.

With the loss, St. Mary’s fell to 0-1 this season, while UCO improved to 1-0. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they face Millersville University at 2:30 p.m. They will follow that up with a 7 p.m. match against
