San Antonio – Amanda Anderson shot a final round 80 to finish 14th individually, helping St. Mary’s University to a sixth place finish at the Lady Rattler Roundup Women’s Golf Tournament, Monday at The Republic Golf Club.
Individually Stephanie Bird of Northeastern State University followed up her opening round of 70 with a second round 75 to take medalist honors with a two-round total of 145. Raelyn Smith of Angelo State University fired the second best round of the tournament, a 71, to finish in second place with a 149. Carla Cooper of Tarleton State University shot back-to-back 75s to finish third with a 150.
In the team standings Tarleton State shot a final round 308 to take the title by 12 strokes over St. Edward’s University, 618 to 630. Northeastern State was third with a 633, West Texas A&M University was fourth with a 643, Angelo State University was fifth with a 651 and St. Mary’s finished sixth with a 671.
For the Rattlers Anderson (Sr., San Antonio) led the way with a 14th place finish of 161 (81-80). Ursula Perez (So., San Antonio) finished in 23rd place with a 167, Jenna Wessels (Jr., Katy) was 26th with a 168, Marie Hulsey (Jr., El Paso) was 44th with a 176, Erika Patterson (Fr., San Antonio) took 45th with a 177, Alejandra Cantu (Fr., Mission) finished 47th with a 180 and Sonya Sanchez (Jr., McCamey) was 50th with a 188.
The Rattlers will return to action on Monday, March 2, to play in the St. Edward’s Invitational at the Grey Rock Golf Club.
The St. Mary’s men’s golf team finished fifth at the St. Edward’s Invitational. Preston Akromis (Sr., San Antonio) tied for sixth individually, while newcomer Jeff Rein (So., Garden Ridge) tied for 14th. The Rattlers will return to action on Monday when they travel to Commerce for the Crawford-Wade Invitational.
