San Antonio – St. Mary’s University senior men’s golfer Alex Maurer was named College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for his work in the classroom and on the golf course.

Maurer (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) had his best season as a Rattler on the course, producing a 75.6 stroke average and three top-20 finishes. His best finish of the season came at the Heartland Conference Tournament, where he shot a three-round total of 216, including a career-low final round of 68. That performance helped the Rattlers win the Heartland Conference Championship and a bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament. For his career Maurer had a 76.71 stroke average in a total of 66 rounds of action.

Off the course, Maurer was equally outstanding. He finished his eligibility at St. Mary’s with a 3.82 grade point average in international business. He was a member of the Heartland Conference President’s Honor Roll for all four of his years at the school and was a member of the Dean’s List at St. Mary’s University.

St. Mary’s won the 2009 Heartland Conference Tournament Championship, with Jeff Rein taking medalist honors. The Rattlers also finished 11th at the NCAA Midwest/South Central Regional Championships.
