San Antonio – Sandy James had three hits and drove home six runs, helping top-ranked Angelo State University to a 5-1, 12-4, sweep of St. Mary’s University in non-conference softball action Thursday at the ASU Softball Complex.

The Rattlers managed just one run on six hits in the first game of the doubleheader, an RBI single by Nikki Flores (Sr., Friendswood) in the top of the seventh inning. Arlynda Flores (Jr., Uvalde) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in the complete game.

In the second game the Rattlers took an early 3-0 lead on an RBI double by Flores, a solo homerun by Chelsea Wenske (So., Shiner) and an RBI single by Michelle Soto (Fr., San Antonio) in the top of the third inning. However, the Rambelles rallied with three runs in the bottom of the inning and took the lead for good the next inning. Taryn Munoz (Jr., Bulverde) took the loss to fall to 8-8 this season.

With the losses, St. Mary’s fell to 15-18 overall this season, while Angelo State improved to 28-3. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Odessa for a four-game series against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin at 2 p.m.
