EDMOND, Okla. – St. Mary’s University took an early lead, but couldn’t hold on and the University of Central Oklahoma pulled away late for a 6-2 win over the Rattlers in non-conference women’s soccer action Sunday afternoon.

Emilie Snelson (Fr., Fairview) scored her first goal as a Rattler just 5:08 into the game when she dribbled into the penalty area, bringing out the goalkeeper, Megan Riley, then chipping it past her for a 1-0 Rattler lead. Just six minutes later the Bronchos responded. Ashton Morris put the ball into the net after Brittany Sullivan made a save off a shot, tying the game at 1-1. Whitney Craft put UCO up 2-1 when her shot from 30 yards out hit the post and bounced into the goal. Stephanie Lovely gave the Bronchos a 3-1 lead, scoring in the 35th minute.

The Rattlers responded early in the second half when Elizabeth Rubi (Fr., Fort Worth) dribbled into the penalty area and beat new goalkeeper Samantha Rusk to the corner, making the score 3-2. But Meghan Saliba put the Bronchos back up by two with a goal just 57 seconds later and UCO added two goals late to put the game out of reach.

With the loss the Rattlers are now 1-6-1 on the season, while Central Oklahoma is now 5-2-2. St. Mary’s will return to action on Friday, October 3, when they host St. Edward’s University at St. Mary’s Soccer Field, starting at 3 p.m.
