AUSTIN–Jimmy Willingham’s first round 72 placed him in eighth place and helped St. Mary’s University to an eighth place finish as a team after the first round of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament, played on Monday at the Grey Rock Golf Club.

Willingham (Sr., San Antonio) shot a one-over par 72 in the first round, tying him for eighth placethree strokes out of first place. Andrew Workman and Collin Mayer of St. Edward’s University, as well as Peter Svajlen of Cameron are tied for first place individually with two-under par 72s.

Matt Vela (Fr., San Antonio) is tied for 25th place with a 75, Alex Mauer (Jr., St. Louis) and Preston Akromis (Jr., San Antonio) are tied for 37th with 79s and James Grant (So., San Antonio) is 42nd with an 81.

In the team standings the Rattlers are eighth overall with a total of 305. St. Edward’s is leading with a 278, 10 strokes ahead of Cameron.

The second round of the tournament will be played on Tuesday at the Grey Rock Golf Club, with the final round taking place on Wednesday.
