DALLAS – Jenna Wessels finished 10th overall, helping St. Mary’s University to a third place finish at the Heartland Conference Women’s Golf Tournament, held on Tuesday at the Golf Club of Dallas.

Wessels (So., Katy) totaled a 170 (80-90) for the two-round tournament to 14 strokes behind the winner, Alex Smith of St. Edward’s University, but just eight strokes out of second place. Heather Wilber and Jamie Shirley of Dallas Baptist University, along with Vanessa Slater of Newman University tied for second place individually.

Amanda Anderson (Jr., San Antonio) finished just two strokes behind Wessels in 12th place with a 172 (86-86), Marie Hulsey (So., El Paso) was 18th with a 183 (92-91), Ursula Perez (Fr., San Antonio) was 19th with a 184 (88-96) and Sonya Sanchez (So., McCamey) was 24th with a 202 (102-100).

St. Edward’s won the team title, firing a two-round total of 651 (321-330) to defeat Dallas Baptist, who finished second with a 675. St. Mary’s was third with a 709 (346-363), University of the Incarnate Word was fourth with a 716, Newman was fifth with a 726 and Oklahoma Panhandle State University was sixth with an 862.

The Rattlers will now have to wait and see if they are invited to the NCAA West Regional Golf Tournament, which will be held on May 5-7 at The Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, Ariz.
