San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s soccer players Kyle Farrell, Sean Strater and Adam Villanueva all were named second team All-Heartland Conference for their play this season in a vote of conference coaches.

Farrell (Jr., Defender Edmond, Okla.) earned all-conference recognition for the second straight season. He helped anchor a defense that allowed just 1.74 goals per game this season. He played in 17 games, including 16 starts. Along the way he picked up his first career assist against Texas A&M-International (10/9).

Strater (So., Midfield, Carrollton, Texas) earned second team All-Heartland Conference honors in just his second season with the Rattlers. He tied for the team lead in points with nine on three goals and three assists. He scored his first collegiate goal against Hardin-Simmons on Sept. 19. He scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick against Northeastern State on Sept. 28. He had his best game as a Rattler against Newman on Oct. 26, scoring once and assisting on another goal.

Villanueva (Jr., Midfield, DeSoto, Texas) made a significant impact on the team in his first season. He played in 16 games, making 15 starts, scoring three goals and three assists. He scored his first goal as a Rattler, the game-winner against Eastern New Mexico on Oct. 2. He assisted on two goals, including the game-winner, against Newman in the Rattlers 4-0 victory on Oct. 26. His second goal of the season was the only score for the Rattlers against #14 St. Edward’s in a 1-1 tie in the season finale.

St. Mary’s finished the 2008 season with a 5-11-1 overall record and a 2-7-1 mark in Heartland Conference play.
