ODESSA–Kyle Frets limited St. Mary’s University to just four hits over 7 2/3 innings, leading the University of Texas of the Permian Basin to a 7-2 win over the Rattlers and a series victory in Heartland Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Roden Field.

Frets allowed just two earned runs on four hits and three walks in 7 2/3 innings of work to improve to 4-3 this season. Brett Hardy came on in the eighth to pick up the save. Tyler Cales (Jr., San Antonio) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings of work. He fell to 3-2 with the loss.

St. Mary’s picked up just four hits in the game, all of which were doubles, with Jonathon Cisneros (So., San Antonio), Michael Brzezinski (Jr., Helotes), Jonathon Rosfeld (Fr., San Antonio) and Bobby Freeman (Sr., Fair Oaks Ranch) picking up the extra base hits.

With the loss the Rattlers fell to 26-10 overall and 22-7 in Heartland Conference play. UTPB improved to 25-12 and 20-11. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday, April 11 at 1 p.m., when they travel to Austin to face St. Edward’s University in a pivotal Heartland conference series.
