San Antonio – Tarleton State University had 44 kills against just 13 errors to sweep past St. Mary’s University, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20, in non-conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena.

The Texans were led by Emily Richardson, who had 11 kills, while Allison Hill added 10 kills. For St. Mary’s Kristen Chapman (Fr., Jourdanton) led the way with 12 kills. Sondra Cui (Fr., Schertz) had 34 kills and nine digs.

All three sets of the match were tightly contested with 10 ties and four lead changes in the first set; four tie scores and two lead changes in the second set and 11 ties and five lead changes in the final set. But Tarleton State finished off each set strong. They won nine of the last 11 points in the first set to pull away after St. Mary’s had taken a 17-16 lead. After the Rattlers pulled within two points twice, late in the set, TSU held on for the win. In the final set the run came midway through as the Texans built up a lead midway through set after the Rattlers led early.

With the loss the Rattlers have now lost six matches in a row and are 8-18 overall. Tarleton State is now 20-7. St. Mary’s will hit the road for their final two matches of the season, traveling to Dallas to face Dallas Baptist University in a Heartland Conference matchup on Friday at 7 p.m., then wrapping up the season at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin on Saturday at 2 p.m.
