San Antonio – Katy Fields and Holly Hicks combined for 31 kills, helping East Central University to a 25-20, 25-18, 17-25, 25-18, win over St. Mary’s University in non-conference volleyball action Friday night at Bill Greehey Arena.

The Tigers rolled to wins in the first two sets, picking up 25 kills against just 10 attack errors. In the third set, the Rattlers changed up the lineup, with three freshman starters. The Rattlers responded as Kirsten Chapman (Fr., Jourdanton), Stephanie Proske (Fr., LaGrange) and Adrianna Keys (Fr., San Antonio) all stepped up their play and the Rattlers picked up the 25-17 win. However, ECU won a back-and-forth set number four to clinch the match.

Chapman led the Rattlers with 15 kills, while Sarah Moreno (Sr., Pearland) had nine kills. Stephanie Solano (Jr., San Antonio) led the defense with 14 digs. Fields had 19 kills, while Hicks added 12 for the Tigers.

With the loss the Rattlers fell to 8-14 overall this season, while East Central improved to 10-17. The Rattlers will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Laredo to face Texas A&M International University in a Heartland Conference match starting at 2 p.m.
