St. Mary’s University will host on Thursday, Jan. 24, a panel presentation commemorating the 35th anniversary of the landmark Chicano civil rights case, White v. Regester.

The 1973 case struck down at-large districts for the state legislature and resulted in an increasing number of Mexican-Americans elected to public office. The panelists will include George Korbel, MALDEF attorney on the original case, former State Senator Joe Bernal, and Rosie Castro, activist and a researcher on the case.

The event will be at 11:30 a.m. in the University Center, Conference Room A. The event is sponsored by the Department of Political Science and the Chicano Civil Rights Committee.

The event is open to the public.
