San Antonio – Lindy Luleff and Ashley Vander Hey combined for 30 kills as St. Edward’s University swept past St. Mary’s University, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23, in Heartland Conference volleyball action Thursday night at Bill Greehey Arena.

The Rattlers had leads in all three sets, including a 19-13 lead in the second set and a 21-20 lead in the third set, but were unable to finish off the sets. St. Edward’s hit .198 for the match, picking up 40 kills against just 15 attack errors. They also had five blocks. The Rattlers had 39 kills and six blocks and had more digs than the Hilltoppers, 63 to 54.

Sarah Moreno (Sr., Pearland) led the way for the Rattlers with nine kills and four blocks. Sondra Cui (Fr., Schertz) had 32 assists and 10 digs for her seventh double-double this season. Valerie Teter (Sr., San Antonio) led the Rattlers with 18 digs.

Luleff led the Hilltoppers with 18 kills, while Vander Hay had 12 kills and nine digs. Chelsea Barsamian had 38 assists.

With the loss, St. Mary’s fell to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in Heartland Conference play this season. St. Edward’s improved to 5-8 and 2-1. The Rattlers will return to action on Saturday when they host Texas A&M International University at 2 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena.
