San Antonio – Kelly Baker had four hits to lead the St. Mary’s University offense, while Malissa Magee, Taryn Munoz and Brittany Kettinger combined shut out Lincoln University on three hits in an 8-0, 8-0, sweep of the Blue Tigers in Heartland Conference softball action Sunday afternoon at Rattler Field.

In the first game of the day Magee (Sr., Katy) tossed three hitless innings to pick up her 18th win of the season against just two losses. She allowed just one baserunner, Asia Coleman, who was hit by a pitch. Magee struck out four and increased her scoreless innings streak to 29 straight. Munoz (So., Bulverede) tossed two perfect innings to complete the second no-hitter for the Rattler pitching staff in two days.

Offensively the Rattlers wasted no time, scoring four runs in the first and following up with three runs in the second inning. Mary K Pederson (Sr., Houston) doubled home Sade Moore (Jr., Angleton) and Baker (Fr., Arlington) followed with a single to score Pederson. Arlynda Flores (So., Uvalde) and Nikki Flores (Jr., Friendswood) also had RBI singles in the first inning. Baker had another RBI single, while Nikki Flores brought home a run on a ground to give the Rattlers a 7-0 lead after two innings.

In the second game, Kettinger (Sr., Azle) allowed just three hits over five innings to toss her first shutout of the season. She struck out three and walked one in improving to 1-1 this season. Baker had two hits and drove home two more runs on a homerun in the fourth inning. The blast was her fourth of the season and she now has a team-high 21 RBI this season. Moore and Arlynda Flores both had two base hits in the game as well.

With the wins the Rattlers have won 10 straight games and 16 of their last 17. They are 24-4 overall, 4-0 in Heartland Conference play. Lincoln fell to 1-7, 0-4. The Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Stephenville to face Tarleton State University in a doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
