San Antonio – St. Mary’s University softball player Sarah Cooper was named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week for her play last week at the Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic, it was announced by the conference office.

Cooper (Sr., Houston) helped lead the Rattlers to the Silver Bracket Tournament Title at the Classic, hitting .500 with two doubles, seven RBI and five runs scored. She had hits in four of the five games she played in, including three games with two or more hits. Against Central Washington she went 3-of-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored. In the next game against Grand Canyon she went 2-of-4 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored. She finished the week with two hits against Cal State-Chico. For the season she is hitting .316 with three doubles, nine RBI and eight runs scored.

St. Mary’s, currently ranked ninth in the nation, has a 13-3 overall record heading into this weekend’s play. The Rattlers will return to action today when they host 6th-ranked Angelo State University in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. at Rattler Field. The games will be the home opener for St. Mary’s this season.
