San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s basketball coach Jim Zeleznak announced on Saturday the signing of San Antonio native John Roberts to a national letter of intent to join the Rattlers, starting with the 2008-09 academic year. Roberts is the 11th signee for the Rattlers this offseason.

Roberts (Fr., 6’1″, G, San Antonio) joins the Rattlers after a strong high school career playing for coach Clifton Ellis at Wagner High School. He earned first team All-District 26-5A honors as a senior and was also named All-City. He earned all-tournament honors at the San Antonio ISD Tournament, the Harlingen Tournament and the Lonestar Tournament. He helped lead WHS to a 35-4 record, the District 26-5A Championship and the regional championship game as a senior. Roberts also played on the baseball team.

Off the field Roberts graduated Cum Laude, was a member of the Honor Roll, was the DECA Vice President, was a member of the National Honor Society and was the Prom King.

St. Mary’s finished the 2007-08 season with a 17-13 record and won the Heartland Conference Tournament title. They fell to Tarleton State University in the first round of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament.
