San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s basketball coach Jim Zeleznak announced on Wednesday the signing of San Antonio native Preston Jones to a national letter of intent to join the Rattlers, starting with the 2008-09 academic year. Jones is the fourth signee for the Rattlers this offseason.

Jones (Fr., San Antonio) is a 6’0″, 180-pound guard that comes to St. Mary’s from Antonian College Preparatory High School. He played both basketball and football for coach Andre Walker. He was a three-time all-district honoree and was named all-state each of his last two seasons at Antonian. He helped lead the Apaches to a state playoff appearance in 2006-07. Off the court he was named Academic All-State.

“Preston is a versatile player who has the ability to play several positions,” Zeleznak said. “He has a great work ethic and will be a key piece to what is a talented freshman class.”

St. Mary’s finished the 2007-08 season with a 17-13 record and won the Heartland Conference Tournament title. They fell to Tarleton State University in the first round of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament.
