San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s basketball coach Jim Zeleznak announced on Wednesday the signing of San Antonio native Aaron Thomas to a national letter of intent to join the Rattlers, starting with the 2008-09 academic year. Thomas is the eighth signee for the Rattlers this offseason.

Thomas (Fr., San Antonio) is a 6’4″, guard/forward, who comes to the Rattlers after four years at Karen Wagner High School, playing for coach Cliff Ellis. He was a two-time All-District 26-5A selection and also earned all-city and all-region honors as a senior while helping Wagner to the District 26-5A championship and a berth in the title game of the regional tournament. As a junior in 2006-07 he was named first team all-district and Newcomer of the Year. Off the court he was a member of the National Honor Society.

“Aaron is a long, athletic wing player who is very active on both ends of the floor,” Zeleznak said. “His versatility offensively creates a lot of problems for opponents and we expect Aaron to be an important part of St. Mary’s basketball over the next four years.”

St. Mary’s finished the 2007-08 season with a 17-13 record and won the Heartland Conference Tournament title. They fell to Tarleton State University in the first round of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament.
