San Antonio – Arlynda Flores led a 30-hit St. Mary’s University attack as the Rattlers swept a doubleheader against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, 8-0, 12-0, in Heartland Conference softball action Sunday afternoon at Rattler Field.

Flores (So., Uvalde) went a combined 6-of-7 in the doubleheader with two homeruns, five RBI and four runs scored for the Rattlers. Chelsea Wenske (Fr., Victoria) had a near-perfect doubleheader, going 3-of-4 with a homerun, five RBI and four runs scored. In the first game six of the Rattlers nine field starters had at least one hit, with four picking up multiple hits. In the second game, eight of the nine starters picked up one base knock.

On the mound the Rattlers were as dominant as ever, allowing a combined five hits in the doubleheader sweep. Malissa Magee (Sr., Katy) tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits, while striking out seven. She improved to 20-3 this season with the win. Taryn Munoz (So., Bulverde) also had a strong outing, going four innings and allowing just one baserunner – on an infield single in the third inning. She struck out seven to improve to 7-1 this season.

With the sweep the Rattlers are now 28-6 overall and 8-0 in Heartland Conference play this season. UTPB fell to 5-19, 0-8. St. Mary’s will return to action on Friday when they host Tarleton State University in a doubleheader at Rattler Field, starting at 1 p.m.
