San Antonio – St. Mary’s University pitcher Taryn Munoz was named Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance against Tarleton State University, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Munoz (So., Bulverde) had her best single-game pitching performance of the season, shutting out Tarleton State on just three hits to give the Rattlers a split of the doubleheader last Friday. Munoz was dominant, allowing just three hits and one walk in the seven-inning complete game. No base runner reached second base in the game. She struck out three. For the season Munoz is now 8-2 with a team-best 1.52 ERA, five complete games and three shutouts. She has tossed 64.2 innings this season, striking out 41 against just 12 walks.

Munoz award marked the fifth time this season that a Rattlers has received Heartland Conference recognition. Malissa Magee (Sr., Katy) has been named Heartland Pitcher of the Week three times, while Sarah Cooper (Sr., Houston) earned Heartland Hitter of the Week honors once.

St. Mary’s is now 29-7 overall this season and is ranked 15th in the nation in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Goodwell, Okla., to face Oklahoma Panhandle State University in a Heartland Conference series.
