San Antonio – St. Mary’s University volleyball players Sarah Moreno and Sondra Cui were named Heartland Conference Hitter and Setter of the Week, respectively, for their play last week, it was announced by the league office Wednesday.

Moreno (Sr., Pearland) helped lead St. Mary’s to a pair of wins last week, averaging 4.09 kills and 0.64 blocks, while hitting .352. She had at least 10 kills in each of the Rattlers three matches last week. Against Bentley she had a career-high 24 kills, five blocks and hit .417. She followed that up with 10 kills against Oklahoma Panhandle State and 11 against Newman. She has double-digit kills in each of the last four matches and six times overall this season. Moreno leads the Rattlers with 2.39 kills and 0.64 blocks per set.

Cui (Fr., Schertz) had her best week as a Rattler, averaging 11.73 assists and 2.09 digs per set. She set a season-high with 55 assists and seven digs against Bentley. She followed that up with 33 assists and six digs against Oklahoma Panhandle State and recorded her eighth double-double of the season against Newman with 41 assists and 10 digs. She is fifth in the Heartland Conference this season with 9.32 assists per set and is averaging 2.55 digs per set.

For Cui, the honor marked the second time this season that the freshman has earned Heartland Conference Setter of the Week honors. Moreno earned the honor for the first time this season.

With the win the Rattlers ended a four-match losing streak and are now 7-12 overall, 4-4 in Heartland Conference play. OPSU fell to 3-18, 0-7. The Rattlers will return to action on Saturday when they host Newman University at 2 p.m.
