San Antonio – St. Mary’s University women’s soccer player Amanda McMullan was named Heartland Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for her performance last week against Dallas Baptist University, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday.

McMullan (Sr., Allen) scored two goals to lead St. Mary’s to a 3-2 double-overtime win over Dallas Baptist on Friday. McMullan scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute. Then in the closing seconds of overtime, McMullan received a long pass at midfield and outran the defense to the penalty area. Her first shot was blocked by DBU goalkeeper Haley Corbell, but McMullan picked up the deflection and ripped the net with just one second left on the clock for the thrilling victory. The two-goal game was her second of the season and third in her career. McMullan leads the team with five goals, including two game-winners this season.

McMullan is the third Rattler to be honored by the conference this season and the second offensive player to earn player of the week honors. Brittany Sullivan (Fr., El Paso) was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21, while Jenae Steensma (Jr., Weatherford) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 7.

St. Mary’s has won two straight games and is 3-10-1 overall, 2-5 in Heartland Conference play. The Rattlers will return today when they travel to Austin to face St. Edward’s University at 4 p.m.
