San Antonio – St. Mary’s University senior pitcher Malissa Magee was named Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II National Player of the Week for the week ending April 6, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday.

Magee (Sr., Katy) led the Rattlers to a series win over St. Edward’s University, going 3-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA in 23.0 innings of work. She allowed just one unearned run on 10 hits and six walks, while striking out 21. She tossed shutouts in all three games she started. In the series opener she held the Hilltoppers to just six hits, while striking out nine in a 6-0 win. She followed that up by tossing back-to-back one-hit shutouts on Saturday in Austin. She struck out eight and walked one in the first game, then struck out two and walked two in the second game. She took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the first game Saturday.

For the season Magee is now 26-5 overall with a 1.46 ERA, 23 complete games and 13 shutouts in 191.2 innings of work. She has struck out 236 batters, while allowing just 36 walks and 118 hits. Opposing batters are hitting .173 against her. She now has five one-hitters this season. Magee was also named Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week for her play last week.

Magee has been named Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Year, as well as first-team All-Heartland Conference, each of her three years at St. Mary’s. She has been named All-South Central Region all three years at St. Mary’s and All-American twice. Magee has earned Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors 21 times in her career, including four times this season. She has a career record of 109-31 with a 1.17 ERA, 99 complete games, 43 shutouts and 961 strikeouts in 905.0 innings of work. She is the Rattlers all-time leader in wins, appearances, games started, complete games, shutouts, innings pitched and strikeouts.

Magee’s award marked the sixth time this season that a Rattler has received Heartland Conference or NFCA recognition. In addition to Magee’s four pitcher of the week honors, Taryn Munoz (So., Bulverde) has earned pitcher of the week honors once, while Sarah Cooper (Sr., Houston) and Sade Moore (Jr., Angleton) each earned hitter of the week honors once.

St. Mary’s is 37-9 overall this season and 15-1 in Heartland Conference play. They are ranked 23rd in the nation in the NFCA National poll and are coming off a split against fifth ranked Angelo State University Tuesday in San Angelo. St. Mary’s will return to action on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. when they host Texas A&M University-Kingsville in a non-conference doubleheader at Rattler Field.
