San Antonio – St. Mary’s University men’s soccer coach Que Willis announced on Monday the signing of Leonel Nunez Jr. to a national letter of intent to join the Rattlers, starting with the 2008 season.

Nunez (Fr., El Paso) comes to St. Mary’s after four seasons for coach Lonnie Wilson at Cathedral High School in El Paso. In his four years with Cathedral he helped the school advance to the TAPPS State Playoffs all four years, including two trips to the semifinals. Off the field he was a member of the National Honor Society, the president of the Spanish Honor Society, an Honor Roll Student and received a Distinguished Diploma.

St. Mary’s finished 8-11 overall last season and 5-5 in Heartland Conference play, good for third place in the conference. They had wins over the University of the Incarnate Word and St. Edward’s University, both of whom were regionally ranked last season. The eight wins ties for the most since the 2002 season.
